Miami On The Move

Bal Harbor Shops is a high‐end retail complex in Miami Beach, Florida. Studio Zewde was commissioned by Bal Harbour Shops in collaboration with Lot‐Ek Architecture to design a landscape for a mobile version of the shopping experience, slated to travel across the southeast United States from Fall 2023 through Summer 2024.

Studio Zewde traveled to Miami Beach to understand the unique qualities of the Bal Harbour Shops experience, with specific focus on the iconic courtyard gardens that shape the luxury retail experience. We designed a central courtyard consisting of custom concrete tiles and metal planters that translate the planting and material palette at Bal Harbour into a flexible and mobile system for the range of climates and seasons of the deployment schedule. The courtyard is sized to create an immersive shopping experience and frame views of the retail entries, offer a unique dining environment, and make for a range of unforgettable, photograph worthy moments.
